Other OSU Extension Bee Programs

Are you interested in learning how to become a better beekeeper? Have you experienced problems in the past that you'd like to remedy? Do you want to help others learn about bees? The Oregon Master Beekeeper program is for you!

Participating beekeepers gain experience at three successive levels: Apprentice, Journey, and Master. Each level provides opportunities and support for additional learning, practice in the field, and community service.

If you have little or no experience, the 'Getting Started with Bees' Certificate Program is a great place to start. It is a stand-alone program that satisfies the curiosity of those who want to know more about bee biology and backyard beekeeping through online learning and discussion forums. The Bee Steward Program is a great place to start. The Oregon Bee Project Strategic Plan includes the goal to enhance bee habitat across the state. To fulfill this goal, Oregon State University Extension has created the Bee Steward Program.

This program is intended to be an introductory self-paced course of study that includes instruction on the biology and life history of pollinators and training on how to build, maintain, and establish pollinator habitat. The course includes online modules and quizzes, opportunities for community outreach, and practical tools to help you promote bee health and biodiversity.

The Bee Advocate Program supports the Oregon Bee Project by providing high quality training and education to the public on the state's bee biodiversity and steps they can take to keep Oregon bee friendly.

Becoming a Bee Advocate is simple and involves watching a 45 min training video and taking a quiz to test your knowledge. Upon completion of the training you have access to outreach materials from the Oregon Bee Project, and additional content from the OSU Master Melittologist and Master Beekeeper programs.
