Starter Award
Each Starter Award has been generously donated to the youth of the Coos County 4-H program. Please read and follow the rules pertaining to each award to apply, as they may differ based on award.
ANS Starter Beef Award

This award, sponsored by ANS Cattle, provides 4‐H and FFA members the opportunity to receive a Hereford or Shorthorn cross beef female. Animals obtained through the starter program must be shown at the Coos County Fair the following year. Please see application for more information.

Coos County Starter Beef Award

This award, sponsored by donations to the Coos County 4-H Association, provides 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to purchase an approved beef female in the breed of their choice. All animals in the Starter Beef Program will be shown at the Coos County Fair the following year, and will meet all of the requirements of the program. Individuals not involved in a beef project will be given priority. Please see application for more information

Coos County Starter Sheep or Goat Award

This award, sponsored by donations to the Coos County 4-H Association, provides 4-H/FFA members the opportunity to purchase an approved female sheep or goat in the breed of their choice. All animals in the Starter Sheep/Goat Program will be shown at the Coos County Fair the following year, and will meet all of the requirements of the program. Priority for the award will be given to members not currently involved in a sheep or goat breeding project. Please see application for more information.

Swine Project Starter Award

Winner of this award will receive a gilt from LSB Ranch and Show Pigs for their project. The gilt must be shown the following year at the Coos County Fair. Please see application for more information.

Trent Messerle Starter Beef Award

This award, sponsored by the Trent Messerle Beef Starter Heifer Endowment, provides 4‐H and FFA members the opportunity to purchase an approved beef female in the breed of their choice. Animals obtained through the starter program must be shown at the Coos County Fair the following year. Please see application for more information.

Special Awards & Scholarships
Special awards are given in the fall each year to recognize those special people who work to make Coos County 4-H program successful. Scholarships are offered to continue education. Please read the instructions and review requirements for completing application.
Davenport Award

The recipient of this award will receive a permanent plaque or trophy donated by the Coos County 4-H Leader’s Association. Applications can be completed by 4-H members or leaders. Completed forms should be submitted to the OSU Extension office by August 15th.

Esch Scholarship

The Esch Scholarship honors the memory of Marissa Esch, an outstanding 4-H member, by recognizing meritorious work and achievement. Please consider applying for this scholarship to help you pursue a higher education.

Friends of 4-H & Distinguished Service Award

To recognize individual(s), groups, business organizations., foundations, associations, governmental bodies and other institutions who have worked closely with the Oregon State University Extension Service and the Coos County 4-H Association in supporting the Oregon 4-H Youth Programs.

Kelli Wilson Memorial Award

Open to all Coos County senior level 4-H members (10th - 12th grade) in home economics and/or livestock projects (beef, sheep, swine, goats or dairy).

McCarthy Scholarship

The McCarthy Scholarship honors the memory of Tarra McCarthy, an outstanding 4-H leader and alum. This scholarship provides incentive for further education to a Coos County 4-H member, and recognition for meritorious work and achievement in 4-H.
