Become a Master Gardener
Being a Master Gardener volunteer is about learning, volunteering, and fun! If you enjoy learning about gardening, sharing your knowledge with others and volunteering in your community, you should consider becoming an OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteer.
2022 Master Gardener Volunteer Training
Applications for the 2022 training are now closed.
To be notified of when applications open for the 2023 class and to receive information on our other gardening classes please sign up for the Marion County Master Gardener Association's email newsletter.
Thank you for your interest in joining the 2022 class of Marion County OSU Master Gardener™ volunteers! The Master Gardener Program is a dynamic volunteer program that will increase your knowledge of gardening, encourage you to help others in the community, and build new friendships.
Spaces in the 2022 class are limited. Applications close on December 15th. All applications will be reviewed and you will be notified by December 30th if you are selected for the 2022 class. Admitted applicants will need to pay the class fee by January 10, 2022 to hold their seat.
Class fee: The $150 class fee covers your textbook and all workshop supplies. If you are able to pay more to help sponsor another student that option will be available. A scholarship option for those needing financial assistance will also be available.

Here’s an overview of our activities this year. We are trying out a new hybrid format this year and are excited to offer new hands-on outdoor activities. Please check out the syllabus for dates (on the next tab) and make sure you are available.
Online lectures and weekly Zoom meet ups run in February and March. The online lectures are taught by OSU experts and provide key horticulture knowledge. The weekly Zoom meetups will encourage you to dive deeper and start getting connected with other program participants.
Outdoor Garden Labs start in Feb and then ramping up through mid-June. These interactive labs will be taught by OSU experts and experienced Master Gardener volunteers. Labs will be held at the Marion Master Gardener Demonstration Garden in Salem.
Volunteer hours are the third and key learning experience to becoming an OSU Master Gardener volunteer. In 2022 we are requiring 45 hours of volunteer service. All volunteer experiences are carefully selected to help you learn and connect with the community.
Thank you for your interest in the Master Gardener Volunteer Program!
Sincerely,
Brooke Edmunds
