Bee Steward - Land Manager

The Bee Steward - Land Manager level is geared toward land managers who want to promote bee health and biodiversity on their land. The program is for anyone who manages private, public, and community land, from gardeners, to golf course superintendents, to people with acreages, to farmers. This level consists of a self-paced course of study, volunteer requirements, an optional annual field day, and the opportunity to make a Bee Steward Management Plan for your property.

Fee Structure

  • $125 enrollment fee
  • Subsidies are available for people with financial need - please write a short paragraph explaining need, and cases will be individually reviewed
  • You are responsible for costs associated with habitat enhancement that you choose to provide on your property.

Included in the program

  • Five online training modules in Canvas (Oregon State University’s online course platform)
  • Copies of the following: August Jackson’s “Bees of the Willamette Valley”, the Natural Resource and Conservation Service’s “How to Choose a Pollinator Seed Mix”, and Oregon State University Extension Service’s “Enhancing Urban and Suburban Landscapes to Protect Pollinators”, “Shrubs and Trees for Oregon Bees”, and “Nurturing Mason Bees in Your Backyard in Western Oregon.”
  • An Oregon Bee Project Bee Steward aluminum sign for your property following completion of the course.
  • When you complete the Bee Steward - Land Manager course you will also qualify for the national Pollinator Steward Certification, provided by Pollinator Partnership. Enrollment is the responsibility of the individual, and may include additional costs.
  • An optional one-day field training.

Certification requirements

  • Complete five online training modules in Canvas.
  • Complete a Bee Steward Management Plan assignment in Canvas for your property.
  • Participate in one outreach event.

A certificate of completion will be issued once these requirements have been met.

Program Expectations

After completion of the program, Bee Steward - Land Manager students are given an aluminum sign that they can display on their property.
