EOU Environmental Education Certificate Program

The Environmental Education Certificate at Eastern Oregon University is designed to equip formal and non-formal educators, natural resources professionals, and community leaders with the knowledge and skills to provide engaging and meaningful outdoor learning experiences with youth. The program is applicable for educators coming from a variety of contexts, including, but not limited to, K-12 classrooms, outdoor schools, school gardens and farms, after-school programs, and outdoor field days. The certificate emphasizes developing effective and inclusive outdoor teaching practices at both the instructional and programmatic levels for diverse audiences.

The NAAEE-aligned Environmental Education Certificate prepares educators, natural resource professionals, and community leaders to create engaging, inclusive outdoor learning experiences for youth.

Certificate highlights:

Fully online, designed for flexible, asynchronous learning
6 courses / 20 credits at both undergraduate and graduate levels
One-year completion track
Open to both degree and non-degree students

Certificate cost subsidy eligibility

The OSU Extension Outdoor School Program is excited to offer a 70% subsidy for six eligible educators who support students attending outdoor school. The subsidy application closed on October 31, and applications are in the review process.

Non-formal

Non-formal outdoor school educators are eligible for subsidized credit costs if they meet all of the following criteria:

Participate fully in the Certificate Program
Meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- Currently work/volunteer for an outdoor school provider or site that serves students attending outdoor school with statewide outdoor school funds.
- Have officially accepted an offer to work/volunteer for an outdoor school provider or site that serves students attending outdoor school with statewide outdoor school funds.

Formal

Formal educators are eligible for a stipend if they meet all of the following criteria:

Supports students ( 5th, 6th-graders, or high school leaders) attending outdoor school via which is supported by OSU Extension Service Outdoor School Program funds.
Participates fully in the certificate courses
