Demonstration of forage root dynamics

Check out this video demonstration of the forage root cycle captured at an Oregon Sheep Grower's Mentoring Program. Gene Pirelli, OSUES Livestock & Forages Specialist (retired) holds a clump of grass he dug up and washed the soil off the roots. Gene demonstrates what is occurring during sensitive times for forages during the grazing year and leads a discussion with participants on management practices that affect the persistence and yield of forages.
