2024/25 4-H Volunteer Training Orientation Packet

4-H provides many worthwhile educational opportunities for youth. Our main 4-H goal is to provide youth with life skills. These life skills include goal setting, decision-making, public speaking, responsibility, leadership, positive self-esteem, citizenship, and teamwork. At the same time, the 4-H experience provides opportunities for adult leaders to gain new skills and knowledge. Intent to Conduct 4-H Fund Raising Activities

Fund raising by a club should be confined to the county or community in which you reside and any fund raising activity should be reported to the county Extension Office at least two weeks prior to the activity. Clubs should raise their funds through their own efforts. Appropriate fund raising activities include recycling of paper, cans, bottles; car washes, bake sales; or agreed-upon assessment of dues. For safety reasons, selling door-to-door is not encouraged. All methods used to solicit funds and/or awards must have approval of the county 4-H agent.

Facts About 4-H: Understanding the Basics

What is 4-H? 4-H is the largest out-of-school youth program in the United States. There are more than 6 million 4-H members nationwide, and thousands of young people participate in Oregon 4-H each year. Through 4-H, young people learn and grow in partnership with caring adults to develop the skills and confidence needed to become contributing, productive, self-directed members of society. Because 4-H uses an active, learn-by-doing approach, young people see how their actions make a difference in the lives of others and the world around them.

Using the 4-H Name and Emblem(Using the 4-H Name and Emblem)

The 4-H Youth Development Program is the youth outreach program from the Land Grant Universities, Cooperative Extension Services, and the United States Department of Agriculture. The 4-H Name & Emblem is intended to represent the ideals of the program with its focus on Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. Today, it is one of the best-known and most valued images emblematic of a century of 4-H achievement. The 4-H Name & Emblem is very important to us as an organization because it represents who we are. If you are a 4-H member or volunteer, you are permitted to use the 4-H Name & Emblem once your program is chartered with the official 4-H Charter from 4-H National Headquarters at the Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA ), within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
